We met at the Manly Art and Crafts Market on Sydney’s northern
beaches in 2003. We were both selling our own jewellery, and initially
wary of whether we would be competing for the same customers. But
once we started chatting, we instantly clicked and soon realized we had
two very distinctive ranges that complemented each other nicely.
We had the same idea about how to move forward and decided to
work together. We came to the Manly market to test our products in
every possible way, from design and quality through to pricing. Our
intention was to start exhibiting at trade fairs around the country, and
then supply retailers. We had great products with real potential but we
needed to find out how to get them out there. Our goal was to have a
jewellery import/wholesale and manufacturing business. We thrived at
the Manly market and by mid 2004 we had our ranges at several other
markets and also hired staff.
The income generated from the markets allowed us to book into the
first Gift and Homeware Fair in Sydney in September 2004. It was a
